in the 40s and 50s, downtown san francisco 48 degrees. san jose 52. concord reporting partly cloudy skies and current temperature of 50 degrees. today a little bit cooler compared to yesterday for the coast, still some areas of fog. temperatures on track to reach the upper 50s to lower 60s. warmer in santa cruz, back up to the 70s this afternoon. right around the bay patchy fog, high clouds into the afternoon hours, 68 to 73, and the inland spots filtered sunshine could be muggy, temperatures no more 80's but still on the warm side, especially for this time of year. mid to upper 70s for places like livermore, concord and antioch. here is a look at the forecast highs this afternoon, as i mentioned the numbers come down on average about 3 to 6 degrees from yesterday's reading. santa rosa 75, downtown san francisco 67. and san jose 74 degrees. a look ahead, the five-day forecast, not much change. with your weekend we'll cool things off by sunday, no rain clouds in the five-day forecast, but just outside of this we could track rain chances by tuesday

is in san jose this morning. people voted for this. >> reporter: people voted for this in november. what's happening today is minimum wage workers in san jose will now make $10 an hour. that's up from $8 an hour. this is the largest minimum wage pay increase in the nation. now, again, voters approved measure d in the fall. that's why the $2 increase is happening. this is of course happy news for the thousands of minimum wage workers in the city. but san jose's mayor is concerned that some businesses might not be able to handle the hike. he is worried people could lose their jobs. >> as the minimum wage goes up, small businesses in particular will make accommodations. some will absorb the cost, some will pass it on to their customers and some will have to decrease jobs and lay people off. >> a campaign is also kicking off today to encourage people to spend their extra money from those earnings in the city. the slogan is, earn and spend in san jose. it will be displayed in business windows. the minimum wage in california is $8 an hour. in san j

down in san jose. traffic not off to a great start. we were you just saw brian flores. because of a large. it hit an suv southbound 101 just after 4:30 this morning. and another car came by and hit the rock. so fortunately there was no serious injuries but the two right lanes are are closed. southbound 101 still moving by pretty well. let's move along and take a look at the bay bridge. we're getting more of a crowd here westbound as you come up to the toll plaza. the only lanes moving through are the fast track and car pool lanes. pretty soon the fast track lanes will be slow as they switch the metering lights on. we've been talking about the crash on southbound 280 still have a lane blocked. for the investigation of a fatal accident. northbound 280 moves well. we will be watching that until they clear it. filling in for steve. good morning, bill. >>> i'm waiting on the traffic. at night we think you morning guys have it so good. you have caters, makeup people and coffee. i'm still waiting. things are looking good. you have a little bit of

collecting evidence. just before 7:00 last night san jose police officers in unmarked cars tried to stop the car but the driver of the car started ramming into two police cars and a parked vehicle. the officer got out of their vehicle and that's when the suspect accelerated towards the officer. out of fear for their lives they shot the suspect and one neighbor heard all the chaos while she was eating dinner. >> we heard a car crash and she looked out the window and it was a car crash and we ran outside and we all of a sudden heard a popping sound and i guess it was gunfire. and they had all of their guns drawn and she was telling everybody, go inside, go inside. [ police sirens ] >> reporter: that suspect was rushed to the hospital where he died of his injuries and there was a passenger with him and he is being cooperative and it is unknown if he will be charged with anything. this happened in an unincorporated area of san jose. they have people being placed on administrative leave, back out here live again this is a meticulous shooting. i do have a s

in san jose because there was no venue large enough in santa cruz. the funeral procession will leave the santa cruz boardwalk at 8:45 a.m. 200 vehicles will be traveling 33 miles taking highway 17 to 85 to 87 and then exiting here in san jose on julian street. again, that service starts at noon here at hp pavilion. it is expected to run until 3 p.m. live in san jose, anne makovec, kpix 5. >> there will be two locations in santa cruz where people can watch the service from san jose. one is at the kaiser permanente arena at 140 front street. the other at the del mar theater at 1124 pacific avenue. the live video feed from the hp pavilion begins at 11:00. the venues open at 10:00. seating will be on a first come first served basis. public transit is available to get to the pavilion. an express bus will run from santa cruz to san jose on its normal schedule this morning. free vouchers will be available for those attending the memorial service. amtrak and caltrain also serve downtown san jose. they are offering free travel for law enforcemen

the dogs in 2007 but the dublin school board voted to bring them back last year. >>> san jose police are looking for two men that are suspected of robbing people leaving a light rail station. janine de la vega is at station with a look at the video police are hoping will lead them to the suspects. >> reporter: the second incident in the last couple of months where victims have been followed off of a light rail station and robbed in neighborhood. the first one happened on ray street but the latest involved a light rail station and happened in the evening hours. police want you to take a good look at these two men. one is black the other is latino and both appear to be in their 20s. on march 8th they followed victims off the train which is near capital avenue. this is video of the two suspects getting off the train. investigators say they confronted the victims in a neighborhood about a half mile away. it was there where they shot the victims. after the victims were robbed the suspects ran away. the first suspect is described as black being 5'10" ta

property in the south bay. kpix 5 reporter anne makovec is in san jose this morning where warnings went out several days ago. >> reporter: the city says it gave these people 72 hours notice and today they are planning a clean-up. i'm on spring street in san jose and you can see campers remain on this public property. the clean-up though is set to begin this morning. and the city says it's going up to its police presence here. about 100 people having living in this encampment near the guadalupe parkway river. it's one of an estimated 60 camps throughout santa clara county. this one is in the flight path of the san jose airport so it's been spotted from above and it quickly grew after another sweep of a homeless encampment nearby. >> you move them interest one spot and they pop up in another -- you move them from one spot and they pop up in another. >> it's frustrating but part of the process. we have to be consistent as i said in our application on how we work with people. if we continue to work, i think everyone at the city believes that we will have

is on for two men who followed people from a light rail station in san jose and robbed them. janine de la vega sat station with -- is at the station with a look at the suspects. >> reporter: i am standing in front of the light rail station. police say passengers who were riding the train were followed from here and into a neighborhood about a half a mile away and then robbed. police want to know if you recognize these two men. one of them is black, the other is latino and both appear to be in their 20s. this is surveillance video of the two suspects leaving the train on march 8th. investigators say at 7:30 that night suspects followed victims from a train into the 2700 block. that is where they confronted the victims saying they would shoot if they didn't turn over their property. the suspects robbed the victims and ran away. the first is described as being black, 5'10", 180 pounds with a afro wearing a white t-shirt and white and black plaid shorts. the other is latino 5'8", 180 pounds. he f you have any information about this robbery or if you recog

large flames shooting from the upper stories of this building and this is on park street on san jose avenue. everybody who lives there was able to make it out safely but because of the size alameda had to fight it from the outside and they took a defensive position and they used latter trucks to get up on to the roof. this was not an easy fire to get under control. >> the challenging parts was that they are old and they have heavy timber and they are broken into many small areas. there is at least a few different areas and they are you have to get to. >> the cause of this fire will be investigated but the division chief he did tell us there is a vacant unit that they will certainly take a closer look at. to give you an idea how big it was, it took all all meet firefighters in fact they had to call in other oakland firefighters to handle the calls. as i mentioned, there were a number of businesses including a clothing store and salon. the fire department does say that a number of these businesses will be suffering smoke and water damage including t
